Director of Marketing & Public Affairs

Location: Remote (U.S.-based). This role will require occasional travel.

The Director of Marketing, Communications & Political Affairs is responsible for building, managing, and elevating Global Works Trust’s brand identity, public positioning, and external influence across domestic and international audiences. This role oversees all aspects of marketing, communications, media relations, digital strategy, and political engagement—ensuring the organization maintains strong visibility, credibility, and favorability among donors, partners, policymakers, and the global community. This leader will work directly with the Director of Development and Director of Programs to align brand strategy with fundraising growth and programmatic impact, and will report to the Executive Director. The Director plays a key role in long-term strategic visioning, ensuring that messaging, public engagement, and political positioning advance the organization’s mission and expansion goals.

Key Responsibilities

Brand Strategy & Organizational Positioning

  • Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive global marketing and communications strategy.

  • Build and strengthen a cohesive brand identity that reflects Global Works Trust’s mission, values, and international impact.

  • Identify emerging opportunities, market trends, and positioning strategies to expand organizational reach and influence.

  • Ensure brand consistency across all platforms, communications, campaigns, and stakeholder touchpoints.

  • Strengthen the organization’s reputation and credibility within both domestic and international development sectors.

Marketing & Communications Leadership

  • Oversee development and execution of integrated, multi-channel marketing campaigns that support fundraising, program growth, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Direct all communications efforts, including website, digital platforms, newsletters, annual reports, media relations, and social media strategy.

  • Develop compelling storytelling and messaging frameworks that translate program impact into donor and public engagement.

  • Ensure alignment between marketing strategy and fundraising objectives in collaboration with the Director of Development.

  • Partner with the Director of Programs to accurately represent program outcomes and impact.

Political Affairs & Government Relations

  • Develop and execute strategies to ensure strong political standing, neutrality, and credibility across all operating regions.

  • Build and maintain relationships with policymakers, government officials, and regulatory stakeholders.

  • Represent Global Works Trust in meetings, forums, and engagements with public sector leaders.

  • Monitor political, legislative, and regulatory environments that may impact organizational operations.

  • Advise Executive Leadership on public policy risks, opportunities, and strategic positioning.

  • Ensure all external communications align with compliance standards and nonpartisan principles.

Media Relations & Public Engagement

  • Oversee media strategy, including press releases, public statements, and earned media opportunities.

  • Position Global Works Trust as a thought leader in community development and international impact.

  • Identify and respond to emerging public narratives, risks, and opportunities.

  • Develop crisis communication strategies and manage reputational risk.

Digital Strategy & Innovation

  • Oversee website development, SEO/SEM strategy, and digital engagement platforms.

  • Lead social media strategy to increase awareness, engagement, and donor conversion.

  • Implement marketing technologies, analytics tools, and AI-driven solutions to optimize performance.

  • Continuously evaluate and improve digital presence and audience engagement strategies.

Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Lead, mentor, and develop marketing and communications staff and external partners.

  • Foster a high-performing, collaborative, and mission-driven team culture.

  • Work cross-functionally with Development and Program teams to ensure alignment of messaging, strategy, and execution.

  • Lead internal communication strategies to ensure organizational cohesion and clarity.

Strategic Planning & Executive Advisory

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the Executive Director and Board on brand positioning, communications strategy, and political engagement.

  • Present marketing, communications, and public affairs strategies and performance metrics to leadership and Board members.

  • Lead strategic planning initiatives related to audience growth, donor engagement, and public influence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Policy, International Relations, or Business preferred.

  • 8–12+ years of experience in marketing, communications, public affairs, or related leadership roles.

  • Proven success leading integrated marketing and communications strategies in nonprofit, mission-driven, or international organizations.

  • Demonstrated experience engaging with policymakers, government stakeholders, or public affairs initiatives.

  • Strong understanding of media relations, brand strategy, and digital marketing.

  • Experience managing cross-functional teams and external partners.

  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Strategic thinker with the ability to translate vision into execution.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in international development or global nonprofit organizations.

  • Familiarity with regulatory and political environments across multiple regions.

  • Experience in faith-based or mission-driven organizations.

  • Strong understanding of SEO, digital marketing, and analytics platforms.

  • Experience leading brand growth during organizational expansion.
